The MEP Dollar, or stock market dollar, is obtained by buying a bond in pesos and selling it in dollars, from an investment account (ALyC) or online banking.
It's a legal way to buy dollars at market price, and the dollars stay in an account in Argentina.
Where does this value come from?
We calculate this ourselves: the AL30 bond's price in pesos divided by the AL30D price in dollars, 24-hour settlement, using BYMA data (if AL30 is unavailable, GD30 is used).
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between MEP and CCL?
Both are done with bonds. With MEP the dollars stay in an account in Argentina; with CCL they settle into an account abroad, which is why it usually trades a bit higher.
Why is the MEP rate from my ALyC different?
It depends on the bond, the settlement period and the exact moment. Here we use AL30 at 24 hours, which is the most common calculation.
How often does it update?
Every minute during market hours and every 15 minutes outside market hours. Next to each value is the time its source published it.
What is the change calculated against?
Vs. the previous business day's close. If today's value went up, the arrow is red; if it went down, green.
